Wordless Wednesday: Just Bud

It’s little Buddy! What more could you possibly want?

I took this photo on Monday, capturing Bud in the moments between him screeching at me, I believe for snacks. Although it could have been a demand for me to sit on the couch so he can then sit on me. I forget.

There is a practical side to taking random photos like this, which is that it’s easier to really look at nonverbal indicators of health and mood. In this photo his ears are up and relaxed, his whiskers are relaxed, and he’s chill. Aside from making loud and insistent demands of me, that is. Anyway, here he is in all his 12-year-old glory:

  1. Buddy is a fine looking feline – quite regal. I sense that he speaks his mind. My Bella hardly made a peep.

Since loosing her, I often wonder if she would’ve enjoyed a baby Bella friend. Perhaps a baby Budster would be a comfort to the little Buddy – a new member in the Buddy Catdom (or at least a bud he could boss around!)

    1. Hey MaryBeth – I’ve been meaning to email you. I would still like to write a story about Bella. You gave her a good home and lots of love at the end of her life.

I don’t know how Bud would react to another cat in his territory, but he would definitely go ballistic if he climbed up to take his rightful place in my lap and found another cat there.

    2. I’ve heard that adopting 2 bonded kittens is the way to go for ultimate cat happiness. I hope to have a chance at that some day. Or maybe two bonded senior cats.

  2. Little Buddy is a fine-looking, meowscular Tiger and he looks incredible! Must be a combination of terrific, Tiger genes and devoted, constant care from Big Buddy. I suspect LB has it Made in the Shade (as we used to say). Congratulations, Little Buddy!! You are beautiful 😍

    1. The key with cats is just to shoot a lot and know that most will be ruined by the cat turning away, making a face, whatever, but if even 5 of 100 shots are solid, you’ve got something to work with.

At least that’s the way I learned from having the privilege of working with amazing photojournalists and seeing how they work in lots of different situations. Like with cats, in photojournalism you have no control over anything so you just have to frame things and shoot.

      1. Exactly! My camera roll is like 75% cats. Hahaha.

Photography of cats (or any animal, but probably mainly cats) is a whole other beast. If you can get a good photo of a cat, you have real talent. Any other photo doesn’t impress me. Just kidding, kinda.
