Home camera footage shows a housing inspector who enters a family’s living room and stops dead in his tracks because he sees…a Maine Coon?!
The inspector was concerned enough that he phoned back to the office to report an “intimidatingly large cat.”
“I’m doing a home inspection now and, like, there’s this cat here, and it’s a very large size cat,” he tells the person on the other end of the line. “You know how you see a cat and they have a cute face? This cat is like… I might eat you later.”
What’d he think it was, a lynx?
Of course we get this sort of thing all the time here at Casa de Buddy. Oftentimes people will hear Little Buddy’s terrifying roar and cast an uncertain glance my way.
“Dude, you got Elmo locked in a room or something?”
Followed inevitably by Bud’s indignant reply.
“I do NOT sound like Elmo! I’m a tiger, I just haven’t hit my growth spurt yet.”

So there you have it. Weird things can happen when you have a huge cat in your home…or one who sounds like Elmo.

I can’t decide if he’s a moron or a pussy – no offense to the felines of the world.

Our cat Meow Meow had some Maine Coon in him and he weighed about 17 lbs. He was a big floofy boy! Not as big as an MC would be, but pretty damn big. He was the sweetest cat I’ve ever had. He loved everyone. Taking him to the vet? Now that was always a joy. 🙄. I miss that boy a lot.

If lynx or not is the problem, the guy could rely on this: If it’s in the woods, don’t pet it. If it’s in the house, it’s okay to pet the cat. I have one who looks just like a lynx but he’s actually a sweetheart.

My big floofy part Maine Coon Meow Meow was the biggest sweetheart ever. Only one other cat was as sweet and that was his Stepbrother and protector, Mister Sneaky. Both were so gentle and loving. I miss both of them so much.

Yeah the home Inspector must not be very familiar with cats because Maine Coons are known for being gentle giants. Big, chill cats. Your Maine Coons sound like they were good representatives of their breed.

Especially with those ear tufts, which give them a lynx-like appearance. Norwegian Forest Cats too. You don’t hear much about them, I guess because they’re pretty rare, but they’re awesome.

The strange thing about my kitty (actually named “Lynx”), is that he (and his sibs) were feral-born. One of the possible feral dad candidates looked like he might have had some Maine Coon or Norweigian Forest lineage. Named him “Sasquatch”.

Sasquatch is an appropriate name for a big, fluffy cat. Your comment made me curious about whether domestic cats can reproduce with lynx/bobcats, and a quick look confirms they cannot, which is what I expected.
But domestic cats can breed with African and European wildcats, Asian jungle cats and possibly a few others.
There has been speculation about how often wild genes are reintroduced into the domestic cat population due to that, and it makes me wonder how many ferals and strays may be a few generations removed from a wild ancestor.

Oh yeah, there used to be rumors about lynx/domestic crosses (and a bobcat actually is a lynx) but when I checked into it I found info saying it doesn’t, and can’t happen. Which I used to state as, a bobcat regards a domestic cat as “dinner” rather than “dinner date”.

@thebigbuddy:
Meow Meow was only part Maine Coon and was a 17 lbs. big floof ball of white/gray fur. Mister Sneaky was just a regular old long-haired void boy, but he wore it well.
I think they were both Maine Coons in spirit because they truly were the most gentle, sweet and laid back cats I’ve ever had. Meow Meow loved everyone he met. Sneaky took it upon himself to become not only Meow Meow’s big brother, but also his protector after he became blind (MM was born deaf).
I was so blessed to have them in my life and it left a huge hole when we had to let them go. miss them both every day.

Sounds like they were awesome cats. That’s the worst part, that their lives are so short, and a reminder to be grateful for the time we have with them. I’ve read quite a bit about white fur and deafness and apparently the same gene that “turns off” pigmentation in the fur is also linked to hearing in some way, and if that wasn’t weird enough, blue eyes are also tied in somehow. There’s still so little we understand about genetics.

Don’t worry, Buddy. You can always outsmart them. Humans always think they’re superior. That’s your edge

A friend used to have a Norwegian Forest cat. HuhYOOGE, but not quite as HuhYOOGE as the average male Maine Coon.
She used to take him outside, and walk him on a leash.
At least a few times a week she’d get asked ‘What kind of dog is that?’
She would usually come up with a crazy answer, i.e. a ‘Burmese Triangular,’ a Southwestern Snake Shaker, a Crumbsley Hoarhound. And my favorite: a Vegas Speckled Elvis
What I don’t recall was the cat’s real name.
