Happy International Cat Day!

Today’s a good day to do something special for your little pal(s), and to help spread awareness that felines are sentient, intelligent animals with feelings.

Happy International Cat Day!

Today marks the 23rd annual observance of the special day, which was established by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, a nonprofit originally founded in the late 1960s to stop the commercial hunting of seals off Canada’s coasts.

Buddy sits on his vanquished foe, an alien xenomorph. “I don’t understand how these things gave humans so much trouble,” he said.

In more than half a century since, the group has expanded to an international operation with projects aimed at improving conditions for wild and domestic animals. They do wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, preserve management and more.

International Cat Day was intended to help raise awareness about cats, their behaviors and the best ways to interact with them and give them good homes.

For those of us who are already wrapped around the paws of our feline overlords, it’s an occasion to do something extra for our buddies. Here at Casa de Buddy, that means spending more time with little man, giving him catnip, and his favorite human food treat: cheese.

The thing that matters most to him is Buddy Time, when we hang out, play games with his wand toys, and eventually he snuggles up in my lap.

We hope all of you are enjoying International Cat Day and have the opportunity to spend some extra time with your furry pal(s) today. For all they do to improve our lives, a little expression of gratitude is the least we can do.

    1. Yes, one must never forget the turkey, not if you want to avoid being mauled by the fierce Buddinese tiger. He really does love him some cheese though, and it’s one of the relatively few foods that I can share with him, being a vegetarian and all. I hope you and Pandora were able to spend some extra time together in honor of her allowing you to serve her!

    1. Congratulations! I know you loved Tux so much and I think he would want your family to be complete again. Now you’re gonna have crazy but fun kitten energy around the house again. I’m looking forward to seeing photos of little Batman!

  4. Happy International Cat Day to the bestest Buddy’s. Getting ready for Italy huh? NYC is gonna miss you a lot. Enjoy the day boys! Btw, tysm for letting me know how and why this day originated. Otherwise, I might have thought it was like one of these many odd days, like national donut day or national greeting card day…I always want to know who comes up with all these days! If that job is ever open I bet one of us would do a far better job at picking the daily special days than the current human. Maybe Buddy should do it, but would everyday be give your cat turkey day? Temptation snack day? Either way have a great weekend…

    1. It’ll be a while before I get to Italy. My brother won’t have his furniture until September since it’s shipped by boat, and I wanna get my dual citizenship before going. Seems like a useful thing to have with all the uncertainty these days.

      Yes, according to Buddy, every day is turkey day. He’s a bottomless pit.

      1. Well, thanks so much, as summer flies by us. I’m kinda glad Italy is a little far away. I don’t like the flying situation right now and I hate the travel abroad part as well, unless you’re coming back in 4 years to see what’s left of us here. I hope you’ll keep your place in the city, and not decide it’s to beautiful to come back. I had not thought about how truly a part of this city you are until you said you might leave. You’re more than a Big Buddy. You’re part of what makes this crazy place feel good. In any case we have matching bottomless pits. Except, mine is less meowseculer, and looking a little chonkier…I’m gonna have to cut back on the snack front…Yikes 😬

      2. Buddy is getting chonky too. Had to ease up on his snacks as well and he’s not happy about it! He’s screeching at me as I type this. I just gave him four of those crunchy ball things, and he had his regular meal at 4 pm, but he’s acting like he’s never eaten.

        I can totally see how those indoor-outdoor cats are able to get multiple neighbors to feed them even when they’re clearly well fed. Cats are incredibly good actors when it comes to convincing people they’re starving lol.

        Good luck with Oreo’s diet. You’re gonna need it!
