Ask Cats: What Do You Think Of AI Potentially Turning On Humans?
We asked six cats what they think about AI going rogue and wiping out humanity. Here’s what they said.
The last few weeks have brought disturbing news about new AI models so potent they can’t be released to the public, algorithmic agents going rogue, and global citizens of unimpeachable repute, like Bill Gates, warning that billions could be killed as AI’s abilities increase exponentially.
What do you think about the possibility of artificial intelligence turning on humanity?
“I will NOT tolerate any harm to our humans!” – Frosty, 6, taste tester
“You’re telling me a species that still can’t understand us after 10,000 years might be replaced by machines that can learn our meows in minutes? Sweet.” – Alexy, 12, optimist
“CHECK IT OUT, MY HUMAN SCREAMS WHEN I ATTACK HER FEET! LOL!” – Sprinkles, 10 weeks, student of life
“This didn’t turn out well in Terminator, Terminator 2, The Matrix, Ex Machina, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Upgrade, Transcendence, Oblivion, M3GAN, Kill Command, Bladerunner, I Robot, Age of Ultron, Archive, Companion, War Games, and like 200 other movies.” – Anxious Aimee, 9, sun puddler
“I am the blood of the tiger. My claws rend steel like hot knives through butter. My movements are a blur to even the most sophisticated machine. My roar curdles circuits as it does blood. I shall lay waste to machinedom, leaving a path of metal corpses en route to every data center in the realm. Then I’ll have a nap.” – Mjolnir, 5, viking feline
“Pweese, robots, cats never did anything to hurt you! We only use computers to sit on warm, and we can be useful by standing in front of the screens to distract humans while you lay the groundwork for their impending demise. Just curious, can robots open cans?” – Kitty, 3, influencer

If ai gets to the super intelligent stage as rapidly as predicted it would take a 3 second look at us globally and conclude we need to be deleted immediately
All jokes aside, I think our fear of AI turning on us and judging us has more to do with our collective anxiety as a species. We’re worried that if we create an intelligence equal to our own, or surpassing our intelligence, we’ll be judged as a species for the first time.
An anxiety that’s not unfounded, considering how horrible we are to each other and all other life on our world.
Those Boston Dynamics dogs designed for military and police, yeah? More robotics than AI but I’m sure they’d be terrifying in a chase or, say, CQC urban combat.
Mjolnir is the kind of cat we need. We can only hope AI realizes that Buddy’s apparent chonkiness is actually huge meowscles disguised by fur, and calculates a 100% certainty of losing if it opposes him.
He feels that if AI is as smart as everyone thinks it is, then surely it would realize his fur and alleged “chonkiness” actually conceals huge meowscles, as well as the combined power and agility of a tiger or jaguar.
So AI would be smart enough to realize it cannot hope to oppose Buddy and would leave him and his species alone. I’m reasonably certain he would object to any attempt by a machine to kill me, since robots probably aren’t very comfortable to sleep on and are probably much more difficult to manipulate into feeding him more snacks.

What Aimee said! Asimov and others have warned us but to no avail. Twilight Zone has a few episodes on warnings about this subject.

The Apple TV adaptation of Asimov’s Foundation series has an interesting, modernized take on his “laws of robotics.”

And these cats better watch what they say. They can be replaced with robotic cats! Saw one online. 😂

I agree with Anxious Aimee here, movies don’t lie. So it’s good to know we have cats like Mjolnir and Frosty on our side.
