Cats are cute and furry but they’re also tyrants who are ruthless when it comes to getting what they want.
Maybe that’s why they’re perfect as mobsters, something the creative minds at Pixar realized when they decided their next animated feature would involve feline mafiosos.
Titled Gatto, the movie is slated to hit theaters in 2027, but you can see a preview below. In the film’s first trailer, Mark Ruffalo’s Nero, a skinny black cat, assists the local mafia boss cat, voiced by Laurence Fishburne, in interrogating a ginger tabby about a missing can of tuna.
They’re quite serious about the missing tuna until they get distracted in a most feline way:
Which reminds me: it’s been ages since we checked in on Buddy’s sworn enemies, Los Gatos cartel, and the Machiavellian maneuvers of the catnip wars… The cartels vs the meowfia promises to be a catnip clash for the ages!

It looks nice; I’d like to see it. I don’t know many movies with cats as the main characters. Or maybe I just haven’t seen enough movies. I remember a friend recommending “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain” to me, and I really liked it. Plus, I didn’t know who that gentleman and his psychedelic cats were. Now I know, and I love them.

Same here, I really liked The Electrical Life of Louis Wain. The cast was great and little Peter the cat was so cute. As for Wain, his art was fantastic.
My favorite cat movie is Keanu, a Key and Peele comedy about a guy who adopts a tiny kitten, loves the little guy, and then comes home one day to find someone broke into his home and stole the kitten. The movie is about him and his cousin trying to get Keanu back from the gangsters who took him.
A Quiet Place: Day One also has a great human protagonist + cat partnership, and the Spanish movie Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, is about a guy and his cat surviving a zombie apocalypse.
That latter movie was a surprise hit and a sequel is coming. It’s already been filmed and it’s listed as in post-production, so it shouldn’t be too long now. I’m really looking forward to it.

Hold on. Did the Godfathers cat finally get a movie of his own? Brando had a white cat. 🤣

Yeah, he did. I’d have to check again, but I believe that cat was a stray Brando found on the movie lot and had taken a liking to. He was petting the cat when Scorsese decided he liked the image and used the cat in the scene.
We don’t know much about Gatto yet but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if there were homages to classic mafia movies.
