Behold My New Box, Humans!

An order from Chewy brought food, a new laser pointer and catnip, but Bud was most excited about the box because, well, because he’s a cat!

We’ve covered some heavy stuff lately, so I thought we’d get the week off to a happy start by turning things over to Buddy, who has a very important message.

“I have a new box. Behold my new box, humans! It is new and comfortable, and it smells like catnip and silvervine since my servant ordered a new tub of the stuff. Yes, he has done well. I am pleased.”

“Yes, this will do nicely, human.”

The shipment brought quite a few goodies for the Budster including a new laser pointer, two months’ worth of wet food and catnip.

We don’t normally endorse products on PITB, but we’re making an exception for From the Field’s catnip and silvervine blend not only because Bud loves the stuff, but also because it calmed him down and soothed his stomach when he was hurting last month.

I gave him some before I brought him to the veterinary hospital and again four or five days later when he had a little relapse. Both times he was crying and yowling in distress, and both times the catnip-silvervine blend settled him down, relieving his pain enough so he was able to rest comfortably and go to sleep. It’s a horrible feeling when your cat’s suffering and you can’t do anything to relieve the pain. This stuff did the trick and will have a permanent place in the Buddy Cupboard.

Finally, I created a new image of the little dude. What you’re looking at is a render based on a photograph of Bud, which was then run through an AI natural language processor with instructions not to alter the substance of the image, but to give it more of a surreal look. The image below is not actually what I was going for, and sometimes the failures can produce nice images in what Bob Ross would call “happy little accidents.” But it is a way to take a subpar camera phone shot, one in which I liked Buddy’s expression and pose but couldn’t fix the blurry bits, and turn it into something interesting.

      1. I would have to hire a kid to build something for my cat but my gut tells me he will look at it and roll his eyes and walk past it. I saw a cat in a kissing booth. 🤣🤣 5 cents for a kiss.

  1. Buddy is magnificently handsome!

Here is a message to him from Cesare the Cat (my Chief of Cheesy Writing):

“Dear Buddy, I love your new box. It is the bestest box I’ve seen in a while! I have told my hooman to order something so that I may have the box. She told me she will order the Ultimate Blend Catnip And Silver Vine. She says I must share it with Josie-Pye. We shall see if I feel like doing that or not.

    Your Friend,
    Cesare

P.S. I’m glad you are all better now.”

  3. Buddy, that is a fine box you’ve got yourself there, and you look adorable checking it out! Buddy sure has some gorgeous striping! I do love that AI portrait of him, even though I’m not usually a fan of AI. Ha, I loved Bob Ross, just posted a joke about him on social media, in fact.

      1. I did a price check on Chewy re: the cat food I feed Ramses and it’s way more expensive than at the pet store here. But…the pet store is family-owned so I’m guessing that makes all the difference in the world. (The canned food is expensive enough as it is. LOL)

      2. Hmmm, it asked me to log in, and then my post comparing current coupons and discount code available at both stores, and it went poof without me thinking to save it of course.

So Amazon currently has $1.27 coupon from the $849 price on the 2 ox tub, and a $2.22 coupon on the $14.86 price on the 3 1/2 oz tub (that Chewy doesn’t offer in the Silver Vine blend), they offer a 10 oz bag of Natural blend (not Silver Vine) at $18.99 with a 10-15% discount on subscribe and save that depends on how many items you order that month. Good for multiple cats, and I seal a meal into smaller packs for freshness.

Now in Chewy’s favor right now they’re offering a 15% discount on the 2 oz tub of Silver Vine, and the 10 oz natural bag, not sure or what other items included or the Terms mentioned apply to, but makes it easier to attain the $50 free shipping requirement, but thinking black friday maybe. Here’s the details

Save Extra 15% Off at Checkout with code: EARLY15
Must enter code EARLY15 at checkout for discount to apply. Limit 10 items per order, limit 3 orders per customer. Valid through 11/20/23 9:00AM EST, while supplies last. Subject to Terms.

      3. Thanks for the Black Friday code.

Yeah, Chewy is best used with autoship discounts and the free shipping.

I like that you can set your own intervals for autoshipments, you can modify them, add/subtract items, delay them and have them shipped sooner. So if your last shipment is lasting longer than expected, you can delay it by however much you need, or do the opposite if you’re running out.

You end up spending more than you would buying weekly at the grocery store, but overall buying in bulk is much cheaper and they always have the food Buddy eats, which has been hard to find in stores since the pandemic.

      4. Yes, I use both places and Chewy usually has several types of discounts available. Their first time autoship is really good, and you can stop and use only when needed so it doesn’t have to be every month either, like subscribe and save. Chewy has far more products to choose from too, and here in MN we don’t have as many small family owned places like M mentioned, at least not in the urban areas.

I always try to plan ahead to see what options are available to meet those order requirements, and why I wanted to share the black friday code for anyone ready to order, or thinking about giving chewy a try.

        Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. Buddy, your box is so attractive and just the right size & shape. You look so handsome in it but of course you always look handsome.

BTW, the AI picture is nice, especially the bright green eyes, but you are much better looking in the photos.

  5. Kool Kat buddy looks to be. and so glad he’s feeling better. I was referred here by a mutual blogger M in regards to your recommended silver vine catnip blend helping buddy, as my cat Shrimpy/Shrimper has been having some issues of his own

Boxes are definitely fun, as one never goes unexplored around these parts. But some have taken it to a new extreme. I wish I could find the link to an Asian Architect I posted about years ago back on cnn.com blog, but here’s some pics of some who’ve done it up, I always wanted to do something on a smaller scale especially when I has 6 cats, but sadly never got around tuit, an old joke.

I’m wondering if this isn’t the site, it sounds familiar but doesn’t show their personal residence back from when they started that was amazing.

It also includes a Cat Cafe directory for the United States, of which I really wasn’t aware of until M’s post about the one in Palestine that is currently in distress.

    1. Hey griff, welcome to the site!

I should mention that Buddy eats catnip. I don’t know why he eats it instead of rolling around in it and sniffing it. He’s always done that.

But from what I’ve read, ingesting it is what causes a cat to calm down and gives it potential medicinal properties. I’m not saying it helps with underlying causes, it just seems to help them with the symptoms for things like upset stomach.

So if your Shrimpy doesn’t usually eat catnip, I recommend trying to put it in his food, and if he doesn’t want to eat, maybe grind it up as much as possible and give it to him. (I’ve read we should grind it anyway to release the compounds that bind to feline receptors.)

I hope that helps. It wasn’t a cure-all, but it did help Buddy calm down and eased his pain a bit before I got him to the veterinary hospital, and it helped again a few days later when he was in distress.

      1. Thank you BigBuddy!

Shrimpy is an eater as well as a roll arounder too, unfortunately his isn’t stomach problems. My cats are both outdoor cats, and just showed up on my front porch in the middle of the night 8 years and a week apart. So they get to roll around in it outside in the yard too, as I don’t use any weedkillers, au naturale native grasses and weeds persist which all the wildlife seem to enjoy. I’m in a small town. They both actually chew on some wild grasses right along the porch which seems to help them with hairballs as well, especially Fluffy, though I don’t necessarily enjoy the cleanup when the spew up inside. Just one of the factors of an outside cat I accept. Shrimpy got hurt somehow, and covers it well, but isn’t able to jump up like before, and now tends to use his claws in my leg to pull himself up, yes ouch. I’m not sure if the Silver Vine would help so much with pain maybe then, as that’s what I notice when I try to keep him from falling off my lap, or pick him up out of my chair to sit down sometimes. M’s been offering some helpful advice and how I came here a I mentioned.

So glad it helps buddy, there truly is nothing worse then a pet, animal, or hooman for that matter sufferng in pain that we can’t help. At least hoomans can tell us what’s bothering them though.
