Through Tears, Young Girl Revives Kitten Succumbing To Cold

A feel-good video about a kitten who was rescued from the brink of death.

The girl in this video found an orange tabby kitten on the verge of death in Hubei, China, and refused to give up on the little one.

Through tears, she used a hair dryer to warm the kitten while her 39-year-old dad filmed her efforts. She was successful! The kitten slowly began to stir and felt well enough after two hours to lap up some milk.

Temperatures in Hubei can plunge into the 20s and 30s overnight this time of year, so the kitten would have died without the little girl’s intervention.

    1. There are some channels on Youtube that are egregious with that, and it’s horrific. Everything’s perfect — the pitiful cat, the soft piano music, the fortuitous capturing of every detail on camera.

It’s like rescue pornography, and it’s gross.

I’ve also seen similarly staged events when it comes to the absolutely brutal pet monkey trade in China and wider Asia.

So yeah…unfortunately that thought did cross my mind, that this could be staged. But the girl looked genuinely distraught, and I’m keenly aware of people not coming back to this site if I write too much about abuse, hoarding, etc. I can see it in the stats, even with most of my traffic coming from outside WordPress. Sometimes it’s just good to see something positive.

Isn’t it sad that people are so disingenuous that we even have to question whether a rescue is real?

      1. Seriously?? The thought that it would be staged didn’t even enter my mind. I’d never heard anything about people faking it before reading your story.

God, people are really sick and will do anything for “likes”. Unbelievable.

      2. Yeah it’s ridiculous. I don’t remember her name, but there was an influencer who recorded her distraught son in the car after they brought their dog to the vet, and she forgot to edit the part out where she keeps urging her son “Cry more! Cry! Face the camera and cry!”

  1. I remember reading somewhere that in the last few years there’s getting to be more concern for pets, and overall animal welfare in China.

Unfortunately a Chinese restaurant I used to go to – China Inn, 11 Courthouse-Dennis Road, in Cape May Court House -, was temporarily shut down, when it was found that cat and dog carcasses were in their walk-in fridge.

    1. There was a case I started writing about months ago, and unfortunately kind of forgot about, regarding a woman in China whose cat was stolen by pet poachers. She was so upset and infuriated that she went full on sleuth, found the people who were stealing cats and importing them from Vietnam, Cambodia et al, and started calling authorities every time a truck full of cats was headed for a slaughterhouse.

I actually looked at the story I had written last night because this reminded me of that. It needs some work on sourcing and making sure I’ve got the facts all in order, but I hope to post it in the near future.

But yes, it’s extremely encouraging that attitudes toward animals are changing in China, which for so long did not even have animal welfare organizations.

    1. It’s good to see compassion for animals in kids.

I can’t share them because my brother and his wife don’t put photos of their kids online, but they just sent me photos of my nieces holding kittens that the neighbors are fostering.

They look so happy with those kittens in their arms! Beaming smiles, completely joy.

  2. This story reminded me of a woman (she rescues cats) on twitter that went to rescue 2 kittens in California during the hottest part of this past summer.

Someone had called her to let her know they needed her help. By the time she got there, one kitten was already dead and the other one was on death’s door. She shared pics of him the night she brought him home. He looked so pitiful.

She went into action! She scooped him up, took him to the vet. The vet told her he was too far gone and she should let him go. She told F you, he is not going to die on my watch! She took him home and cleaned him up. It was touch and go for a few days, but that little guy was a fighter. She named him Shrimp. Somehow between the 2 of them, he was brought back from the absolute brink of death. Had she got to them even minutes later, he could’ve been dead too.

She just posted new pics of him. He’s now about 6 months old and you’d never know how his life started out. They’re both amazing. She goes by Haley on twitter if anyone wants to check the little dude out. He’s adorable.

  3. BTW for people on WordPress: Is your subscriptions tab showing “popular sites” instead of the actual sites you’re subscribed to?

Mine has been showing the former for about a week now, and it’s frustrating because I can’t see activity from the people I follow…which is the point of subscriptions in the first place.
