    1. They carry so many diseases, I wonder if cooking them makes any real difference.

Years ago when my brother lived on the upper east side, he had a first floor apartment with an actual back yard and rats would come marauding through on summer nights en route to the end of the block. Presumably they were looking to get into the trash of the bodega and bagel place.

My brother wanted me to bring Bud and leave him in the yard overnight to kill the rats.

I told him hell no, primarily because I didn’t want Bud getting diseases, but also because I’m pretty sure he’d run screaming from the rats.

The potential diseases alone from this guy eating a dead, raw rat makes me shiver.

      1. Little Buddy would run from rats? I think LB is making a wise choice. Rats are dirty and dangerous. Good for you Little Buddy ❣

    1. Maybe, but a guy just grabbing a dead rat off the sidewalk and eating it?

I feel like this is the type of thing that happens when we fail at providing mental health services to people who really need it.

      1. Exactly!! This man is not well. Mental health services are needed in EVERY STATE. My relatives in Italy said mental health care is good where they live.

  1. As history has proven ~London is simply a few steps behind NYC so this is likely happening here. Homelessness is a major issue here as it is globally, I think its just more “seen” in major cities. I agree completely regarding mental health. At my church we run a homeless shelter for 2 months of the year getting men off the streets for a few winter nights. Talking to them mental health is one isuue, addiction is another and simply life events like home break downs is also a major component. There are brilliant people that come from local health and council services to try and help but its like a small stick trying to stop a tsunami.

  2. I guess if you’re starving, food is food. Civil War soldiers at rats in the Confederate POW camps. I think you’re right, a house cat is no match for city rats. I grew up outside Detroit. They are a different breed.
