‘Aww, Your Kitty Is So Cute!’

A very Buddy Halloween!

As much as Bud can be a wimp fearless protector of the apartmental realm, he’s also very friendly when he feels confident, and he loves Halloween.

Every Halloween since kittenhood, little man has answered the door with me, standing right by my side as I hand out candy. He’s just as curious about the kids as they are about him.

“Your kitty is so cute!” one girl of about 10 said tonight as Bud looked up at her.

“Thanks!” I said. “He loves answering the door.”

The little girl, dressed as a witch, was the third trick-or-treater to compliment Bud tonight. That may not seem like much, but we had surprisingly few kids this year. I expected a lot more since the last two Halloweens were muted by the threat of COVID, but for whatever reason the little ghouls and goblins have not returned to pre-COVID levels.

For what it’s worth, when I was a kid we used to love going to apartment buildings, which offered the best time-to-candy ratio. You could knock out an entire floor of 20 apartments in 10 or 15 minutes, then walk up the stairs and do it again. By the end of the night, you were guaranteed to have overflowing bags of candy.

Things have really changed in two decades. My brother, my friends and I would just go out by ourselves in our Batman, ninja and robot costumes. Mom would tell us to be careful, but we weren’t chaperoned. Nowadays every trick-or-treater has a parent in tow. I’m not sure if that’s a smart precaution or a sad reflection on our society.

Alas, Bud didn’t wear a costume this year. Usually I’m able to get him to tolerate a simple bandana or his little tuxedo, at least for the time it takes to answer the door. I couldn’t find either of them this year, so I tried to bribe him into wearing a little penguin hat from an old costume.

Despite the payoff in snacks, Bud tugged the hat off three times. It was a bit too small, and he’s too smart. The hat didn’t have a chance.

Happy Halloween! I hope all PITB readers and their feline masters are having a great night. Have fun polishing off the leftover candy!

  1. I grew up trick or treating in the Bronx & I’m a bit older than you, but yes you said it, Apartment buildings were the best catch of doors with candy behind them! I loved it & it’s sad that things have changed the way they have. Honestly though Buddy hasn’t changed & he’s handsome & curious & he doesn’t need a costume as he’s forever the debonair king of cats. If he could only say, I’m Buddy Bond 007, you’d be set, but it sounds like all are having a good time & you’ll have lots of candy left over & whatever movie or series you two will watch together or with company will be fun & now a little sweeter.

Tbh, I’m embarrassed to admit it but way pre covid was the last time I was invited out to a Halloween evening of fun & I really didn’t want to go because the friend who invited me is always a job after drinks. I also needed a costume of sorts & this was very last minute. Long story really short, I stuck a name tag on my jacket & in the area for the name I put Miss Daisy Pettlefield & I left. When I got to the bar, my girlfriend was already a few beers in & I knew where this was heading. I sat next to her & ordered a shot of tequila & when people asked me who I was supposed to be, I said I’m in the witness protection program 🙃!! I’m not a drinker either so a shot really is fine & I don’t end up in a line for a ladies room every few minutes. I finished my first & last drink while my friend was given a batch of little beers in an ice bucket. This was thanks to her costume of a sexy witch. She had a low cut neckline maxi dress & loads of makeup. Honestly she looked more like a girl who went to Woodstock & never made it out. Her chest always gets attention since they’re the size of a national monument naturally & needless to say she never pays for anything.

She was feeling herself & I wasn’t. I told her I had a headache & I was just going to go home. She grew up in the area so everyone knew her & I knew there were people there who’d take good care of her. The huge girls in front of her were now placed on the bar quite deliberately, so now was as good a time as any to go. I said goodbye 👋, weirdly people said, “Hilarious Costume” (As I thought and Cheap too) , I stopped at the Bodega at the corner bought myself my favorite candies & was home in no time at all.

After that year, I stayed home carved cool pumpkins & like you answered the door to kids with my furry kids. Now it’s just me & Oreo & where we live now, NO ONE even knocks.

I think now that we’re safer & further from the deadly kinda covid, I think I’ll revisit the Greenwich Village Parade. It’s like Mardi Gras for a few hours with amazeballs costumes & fun people. I can just take photo’s & be me. Or I’ll stay home with Oreo & maybe one day Buddy & Oreo can FaceTime, lolz.

Whatever happened to the old Halloween? I miss it but maybe it’s just about reinventing it & making it special again in some way. It’s still my favorite holiday so tonight it’s just me & every scary thing I can stream & let’s see if I can get Oreo out of his cat nap to join me.

I always wish YOU & BUDDY ALL THE BEST ALWAYS & a very very very Happy Halloween eve!!!!

**Get ready Buddies, tomorrow the stores will have overpriced candy for pennies on the dollar. The retail giants will be shoving a cross between Thanksgiving & Christmas at us from every direction!
    Goodnight Gentlemen 👣🐾🐾🍬🍭🍫&🍗 👈for Buddy… Cheers my Buddy’s 🎃🥂🎃**

    1. The village Halloween parade is great. It’s the one night of the year when everyone is super friendly at the bars and it’s easy to strike up conversations with strangers, rather than the usual reserved nature of New Yorkers. I have fond memories of drinking at Down the Hatch on Halloween. That place was always wild.

Buddy thanks you. Flattery will get you everywhere with him.

As for scary stuff, I’m watching Run Sweetheart Run on Amazon Instant and I might rewatch the Korean zombie series Kingdom later. That show puts The Walking Dead to shame with its blend of historical drama, horror, political intrigue and action.

I hope you and Oreo find something fun to watch

      2. I should have noted that Run Sweetheart Run is, well…not for everyone. I just saw it and started watching it because I like Ella Balinska, and almost gave up on it until I realized it’s a genre flick. But yeah, it might be traumatizing to some people.

  2. Yeah so does my other half, he adores her. No worries, I’m the crazy person who has stayed thru the whole human centipede series which was just ruthless violence with little rhyme or reason kinda/sorta. I’ve seen enough SA & I & R*** so no triggers here but thanks for your concern…Have fun Buds! Just saw a X-Mas Tree commercial!!! It’s 2hrs almost since Halloween ended 🥴 lolz, gd nite.

    1. I haven’t seen Human Centipede and wasn’t aware of it until South Park spoofed it, but I assumed it was as you described, gratuitous body horror.

Can’t believe you saw a Christmas commercial. Usually they at least wait until it’s close to Thanksgiving. We turn back the clocks this weekend…ugh.

      1. It should be against the law!!!!🤮 Oreo has even snubbed the infamous Christmas Commercials that are entirely too soon! He’s usually on me or near but now he’s off to anywhere that’s not near a TV. It’s currently the fake Christmas Trees for sale & stores telling us to start shopping now 🙄.

I know I’m silly about this but I really don’t like seasonal movies out of season. I don’t want to see Christmas before Thanksgiving is over. Then rush me with all the music & commercials you wish but before, well, it just irritates me.

Oh yes, the 3 human centipedes series is so badly acted that it’s really just gratuitous violence & gore. Funny note though, the second one is non speaking, and in the final one, Eric Robert’s is in it! I mean he’s a strange guy but he still did The Pope of Greenwich Village, so shocked I was!

Anyway, yes holiday, “too soon” is starting! That untimely holiday STUFF & no I’m not ready for it. Thank you btw, for leading me down some really great film choices though. Now, to you & Buddy, I’m forever grateful for the blog & the rare moment on Quora where I get to see the Big Buddy’s handsome face, as well as here.

Here I get to read, where there’s no commercials. All is good, or not, but you’re ALWAYS my go to bloggers, you & Buddy that is… **(Your followers are also great btw, they’re just as fun & interesting)**

Now off I go, but 1st my very best to you both, everyday & beyond 👣🐾🐾🍎🗽Know, I’ll be reading you 🥂Cheers🥂

      2. Yup, especially the out of season movies. Elf, A Christmas Story, Home Alone, It’s A Wonderful Life, Bad Santa. There’s a new one, 8-bit Christmas with Neil Patrick Harris, which got good reviews. I saw the trailer yesterday and it looks awesome.

Please give little Oreo a head scratch for me, and thank you for the kind words. Little Buddy loves hearing about how interesting he is.

      3. We both thank you & for certain we’ll check out what’s up & coming since you have been on point! Going to go do that scratch & give the tuxedo monster breakfast. When you’re able send a lil turkey Buddy’s way in our honor. He’s such a great guy & handsome too 😍
